A CELEBRATION OF THE LIFE OF PAUL ADEY, APRIL6 1924-APRIL29 2007
The story goes that while fighting in Italy, young soldier Paul Adey found himself in the Vatican
City. The crowds were there to see the Pope. One member of the gathered group asked who the man in
white was standing up there. The person next to him replied "I dont know but the bloke next to
him is Paul Adey from Mexborough".
Paul loved telling that story but the truth is he was a very modest man who would shun the limelight
rather than seeking out the glory for himself.
Paul was born on 6th April 1924 to Paul and Doris Adey. He was the eldest brother of Joyce and Pat.
He fought in Italy and North Africa in the second world war, and was shot twice- once in the leg
and once in the buttocks-he often joked that the one in his buttocks wasn't that deep because
he was running so fast the bullet had trouble catching him.
He met Brenda at the local scissor factory. The two of them married on 21st February 1948.
Paul and Brenda have 4 daughters, Lynne, Pauline, Diane, Bev, and although theydidn't have much
money, there daughters never wanted for anything, and the two of them often went without themselves
to make sure there girls did'nt.
Paul was a Socialist and Humanitarian, and always fought for the under dog.
He was a true Gentleman, and believed that everyone else was the same- He saw the good side in most
people, but was never shy about telling someone if he thought they were in the wrong especially if
they happened to be Tory.
He is a former chairman of Mexborough Labour Party, served on the town's school governors and
also the Montagu Hospital management committee. It was with a sense of great pride that he fought to
save the hospital from closure and it's more than appropriate that his final days were spent
there in the warm and comfortable atmosphere he found there.
He loved all sports especially football and horse-racing "He couldn't even ride a bloody
rocking horse" was one of his favourite attacks on the jockeys who rode his horses, usually the
ones crossing the finishing line after the others.
Paul was renowned for his DIY lack of skills and the invention of super-glue opened up a whole new
world of disaster for him. Take for example the time he tried to repair the heel of Bev's shoe,
it remained unstuck... Pauls fingers didn't.
Or the time he warned everyone to watch out for the hole in the bathroom floor as repairs were being
carried out...only for him to fall through it and his leg to finish up through the lounge ceiling.
We knew it was him by the protruding blue longjohns.
Although Paul wasn't a finacially rich man, the devotion and love from his wife Brenda, his
daughters and all the family made him the richest man on Earth.
The legacy of love and pride he gave to us will stay with us forever.
If indeed there's such a place as Heaven you can bet your bottom dollar Paul will be there
shouting at the telly about injustices, rubbish footballers and more losing bets on the horses with
God by his side.
Those waiting at the pearly gates will ask "who's that chap over there with the beard and
long white robe"? The answer will come from one of them " I don't know but the other
bloke's PAUL ADEY FROM MEXBOROUGH,
He will be loved and missed eternally by all his family, and today is a time to celebrate and know
they were privileged to have known, PAUL ADEY FROM MEXBOROUGH.
A remarkable Husband, Father, Grandfather,
Great-Grandfather.

Our Heartbeat is Your Heartbeat
Our Bond Cannot Be Broken
Rest High on That Mountain
Till We Meet Again.

EVERY WHERE YOU ARE

When I think back
On these times
And the dreams
We left behind
I'll be glad 'cause
I was blessed to get
To have you in my life
When I look back
On these days
I'll look and see your face
You were right there for me

In my dreams
I'll always see you soar
Above the sky
In my heart
There always be a place
For you for all my life
I'll keep a part
Of you with me
And everywhere I am
There you'll be

Well you showed me
How it feels
To feel the sky
Within my reach
And I always
Will remember all
The strength you
Gave to me
Your love made me
Make it through
Oh, I owe so much to you
You were right there for me

In my dreams
I'll always see you soar
Above the sky
In my heart
There always be a place
For you for all my life
I'll keep a part
Of you with me
And everywhere I am
There youll be

'Cause I always saw in you
My light, my strength
And I want to thank you
Now for all the ways
You were right there for me
You were right there for me
For always

In my dreams
I'll always see you soar
Above the sky
In my heart
There always be a place
For you for all my life
I'll keep a part
Of you with me
And everywhere I am
There you'll be

GOD BLESS YOU, MY LOVELY DAD

NOT THE SAME

Another day another reminder that your not here with me,
I watch the snowflakes falling from the sky then I get lost in memories
I can hear the music playing,
See the lights upon the tree,
I can feel the joy in every soul,
But for me it's incomplete,
And I try my best to play the part,
But no matter what I do,
No it just don’t feel like Christmas, without you.

FOR CHRISTMAS

Right now I’m in a different place
And though we seem apart,
I’m closer than I ever was.
I’m there inside your heart.
I’m with you when you greet the day
And when the sun shines bright.
I’m there to share the sunsets too.
I’m with you every night.
I’m with you when the times are good
To share a laugh or two.
And if a tear should start to fall
I’ll still be there for you.
And when that day arrives
That we no longer are apart.
I’ll smile and hold you close to me.
Forever in my heart.

GOD BLESS YOU DAD LOVE & MISS YOU SO MUCH XXXX

For Fathers Day & Forever

Thinking of You Dad

Sometimes I cant believe dad
That from this world you have gone
Yet, you left me with an inner strength
To build my life upon

You see dad you were my rock
My lighthouse out at sea,
And time never could diminish
All you ever did for me

You've left a wealth of memories
Within my heart to hold
That no one can ever take away
For I treasure them like gold

So, dear dad sleep peacefully
You're in my very thoughts
And I feel such thankfulness
For all the happiness you've brought.

MY DAD MY HERO... MY STAR

When a person you love passes away
Look to the night sky on a clear day.
The star that to you, appears to be bright,
Will be your loved one,
Looking upon you during the night.
The lights of heaven are what shows through
As your loved one watches all that you do.
When you feel lonely for the one that you love,
Look to the Heavens in the night sky above.

Grandad Paul

Something will remind me,
I never know just when,
It may be something said or done,
And I think of you again.
The great times spent together,
The happiness and fun,
Once again I feel the pain of life without you!!
Its said that times a healer,
Though I don't think this is true,
Theres not a day that passes by that I don't think of you!!!
